Orongo, Kenya — A Community Built on Resilience
In rural Kisumu County, Mama Florence, a retired schoolteacher, turned her family's land into a haven for orphans and widows. Children orphaned by AIDS are raised by widows of all ages — a family bound not by blood, but by shared resilience. Children go to school. Widows learn trades that build lasting self-sufficiency.
But every rainy season, the Nyando River threatens it all.
Floodwaters force families from their homes. Venomous snakes, displaced by the rising water, become an added danger. For this community, rain doesn't bring relief — it brings fear of hunger, of hidden threats in the water, of losing shelter.
Positiviti Foundation is building a safer future — durable homes, dignified sanitation, and skills training that turn today's struggle into tomorrow's strength. A legacy for generations to come.
Seasonal Floods:
A Health Crisis
Traditional pit latrines fill with floodwater, collapsing and spreading raw sewage into living areas.
Cholera and Typhoid outbreaks, and venomous cobras and black mambas bring terror.
Elderly "Gogos" (grandmothers) struggle to access the latrine.
They deserve dignity, not danger.
Positiviti is creating flood-safe solutions to provide
long-term community development support.
